We all love the warm weather. It’s good for our mental health, it alleviates aches and pains, and it means more time spent making memories with those we love the most. What summer also brings, is hot evenings, sleepless nights and the inability to get a full nights’ sleep, usually because we spend all night trying to find the coolest part of the pillow.

Keeping your home cool and fresh during the hottest months of the year, doesn’t always mean turning your air conditioning up. After all, not everyone has access to a high-powered unit or has the means to run one throughout the summer. So, with this in mind – let’s explore some amazing ways to keep your home cool and fresh this summer.

Switch to LED bulbs

On those summer evenings when you retreat indoors for some relief, you’ll want to keep your living areas as cool as possible. However, if you’re still using traditional lightbulbs you could be inadvertently increasing the heat in your rooms, due to the amount of heat emitted from the bulbs. By using LED spotlight bulbs throughout your home, you’ll benefit from the fact that they’re energy efficient, which means less heat is radiated, keeping your rooms cool and looking stylish throughout the summer. It’s a small change, but a significant and effective one.

Keep Your Curtains and Shades Closed

When the sun shines and you know it’s going to be a beautiful day, it’s nice to throw open the curtains and blinds and let the sunshine in. While this is probably the most natural thing in the world, by allowing the sun to shine directly into the rooms of your home, you’re warming your property and increasing the indoor temperature. This unwanted heat can make cooling off indoors very difficult. So, when you know that the temperature is going to be high, keep your window dressings closed.

Choose Cotton Sheets

We all like the feel of luxurious bed linen, however, when the warm weather hits you might want to go back to basics. Switching to cotton sheets will help keep you cool, wick away moisture and help to keep the bed cool for you.

Declutter Your Rooms

If you ever needed another reason to get rid of the junk in your home, then this is it! Decluttering your home can allow the air to flow through your property better. Airy and spacious rooms already feel much cooler than those that are filled with junk, heavy furniture, rugs and items that don’t belong. Take some time to declutter the rooms in your home before the hot weather hits.

Avoid Cooking!

In summer, we tend to prefer lighter meals, however, any meal that requires you to switch on the oven or the hob can make temperatures indoors soar. Slaving over a hot stove is the last thing you should do on a hot day, so switch to some lighter and easy to make meals instead. Why not also enjoy some refreshing summer mocktails?

Keeping your home cool in the summer means you can enjoy the hot weather when it arrives and have somewhere to retreat to for regular breaks from the heat.
